"Three rooms" is a passion project initiated by House of van Schneider (HOVS), our boutique studio intersecting brand and product design. It started when I commissioned Jesperish to paint three pieces of art incorporating the new HOVS identity. Then it became something much bigger.
We were so inspired by Jesperish’s art, our entire HOVS team came together to create a digital museum for it.
In each room of “The House,” you will find one of Jesperish’s hand-painted pieces in their massive 10,000 pixel resolution. The rooms are art in themselves, designed and rendered at 40,000 pixel resolution. For context, any images we use here on DESK are usually 1,400 pixels max, so they don't slow down the site. We're talking nearly 30x bigger than that. To make this work seamlessly on the web, we split each room into 18,477 tiny squares, which are dynamically loaded and stitched together like a giant puzzle as you explore the room.
It was months of dreaming, experimenting, revising, exploring and crashing our computers. And for what? No reason other than creating something beautiful. I am forever nostalgic for those early days of the internet, when we explored and experimented purely for pleasure. No agenda or motive, no expectations. Just pure fun and curiosity. "Three Rooms" is a tribute to that time.
I hope you enjoy not only the artwork, but the rooms and stories we’ve created for you. Be sure to view on the biggest screen you have, put on your headphones and turn up your sound.
