An unsolicited portfolio review featuring animator & motion designer, Victor Verdugo

Welcome back to Unsolicited Portfolio Reviews, where we dig into some of our favorite portfolios and figure out what makes them work so well.

This week we’re looking at Victor Verdugo’s portfolio, made with Semplice.

It's the level of detail and personalization in this site that makes it stand out. On every page, we get the sense that Victor created this site out of passion rather than obligation.

Scrolling Victor’s site almost feels like having a conversation with him. Let’s start at the top, where he introduces himself and his expertise alongside his custom motion reel. Below that we have a “Latest projects” section, which is a smart way to call attention to his favorite projects, and create a sense of fresh activity and energy. He adds further context with brief summaries, descriptive buttons and tags for each project.

It’s easy to get sidetracked by the design, overlooking the little details that make your site feel personal. It’s clear Victor was thinking about his content just as much as his design.

Below this, we get into his other projects. Once again, Victor’s personal approach stands out.  Hovering over any project gives us a short text introduction before we even click. His case studies are written casually in his own voice, so we feel as though we’re sitting over his shoulder as he walks us through his work. He often shares the thinking behind his visuals, using features like the Semplice Before/After module to take us behind the scenes. As a result, we sense his confidence and enthusiasm about his work.

Finally, let’s jump to the Work page. Here we see a clean grid of Victor’s projects in one place. The category filter at the top (a Semplice feature you can enable with a click) shows us his main areas of focus and allows us to sort his work live on the page.
